preaching

I preached my first sermon in homiletics class last Tuesday. There were things I wanted to do and did not do. Doing them would have raised my grade. But most importantly, I did not stumble and stammer and shake, forget my words, or read the entire manuscript verbatim. I was able to give it some personality without losing my place, which is something I was extremely concerned about. And considerint the fact that I was running a fever and hacking my lungs up all day, I won't beat myself up over this first try. I have room to grow, and I got some very favorable feedback on things I didn't expect feedback on at all. Speaking up is going to be something of a chore... I am probably going to have to move toward near-yelling when I'm not amplified, and I suppose the ability to gage my loudness will come in time.

From the many preachers I've seen, they have to project their voices, which means a little yelling has to be done.

I'm glad you did so well! I think you will get even better!

Hey! Glad that went well for you. I've never been one for public speaking. I'm a much better writer, so I can understand exactly what you mean. Anyway, I'm glad it went well, and I hope you'll get many opportunities to do that again.
