the entire serenity prayer

I had never heard the entire thing. It is worth knowing.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

” Amen. </pre>

I heard it several years ago. I used to be a member of Alanon. Heh. My life is one long story after another. **winces just a little**

I really had a problem with the "Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace." Sometimes accepting abuse is just as ill as being the abuser. . . so I had to really pray about that one and get a healthy perspective of it. . .there's hardship, and then there's abuse. The two are NOT the same.

My perspective.

hardship vs. abuse
Oh yes, there is a vast difference! And sometimes in the church we fail to recognize it. We have a great doormat theology.

Thank you, Sarah, for posting this. I had heard it years ago and had just flat-out forgotten it!

Will now print it out to go over my desk.
