severe weather and my cats

It's severe weather season, and I am monitoring my cats' behavior closely.

Worth noting: Inca gave up a perfectly good nap and massage ten minutes before the onset of hail and a tornado warning. Sierra mewed somewhat plaintively five minutes before the onset of the hail and tornado warning.

Worth noting: I did not hear the tornado siren reliably.

Worth noting: Sierra ushered me to the kitchen door (leading to the stairs) and waited for Meghan to leave but did not try to exit herself. I did not try getting the cats to the basement--I figured it would be a time-waster since I had no idea how long the siren had really been sounding.

cool about your cats
Wow! Cats that predict weather. These animals are truly amazing. Love your journal!

While I shudder at the idea of Guide Cats (... "No! I will not walk along the fence instead of the footpath! I... What do you mean, 'rooftop to rooftop is better anyway'?"), I have heard of several cases where cats have learnt to act as the 'ears' for their humans. I've seen a couple of articles about cats with deaf humans who have learnt to alert their humans to important noises like someone knocking at the door. They don't have formal training or anything, just exceptionally good instincts.
