screen reader demo

This voice post accompanies the demo previously posted. It is a demonstration of my screen reader, reading out loud of course. I explain a few things about how it works.

Wow!!! You have jaws speeking slower than I do.
BTW, if you switch your lj skeem to links(go to either my LJ, or edit user info to find it) to the "links skeem, the "clickable" goes away.

JAWS speaking rate, etc
I slowed it way down so the sighted folks could understand it. Usually I have it on 45 to 55 percent.

Thanks for the tip on the LJ scheme thing. Off to find it...

Re: JAWS speaking rate, etc
I too set mine to 55!
Slowing down for the sighted makes sence!
I'm a dumb dumb for just automaticly assuming you'd always used that speech rate! LOL
BTW, if you've not alrady found the skeem thing you can also find it in the links menue of semagic.
You'll have to go to the submenue with in links that just says "sub menue" to find it but "set skeem" is in there.
HTH if needed.

You have won the award for possibly the most interesting LJ post EVER. I've really enjoyed this one. Thank you!

This is so interesting, I've always wondered how it works, and now I do. It seems like it works similar to Kerzweil, if I'm not correct? I have it on my computer, but don't use it much. However, this year at school, since my disablity has changed and I'm very weak, I'm certain Kerzweil will come in extra handy!:)

screen reader vs. Kurzweil
Well, the only real similarity is that they talk. Kurzweil reads books out loud, but the screen reader allows a person to access programs on the computer. So I can have it read portions of any program's window, and it includes keyboard commands for interacting with the programs since I can't use a mouse. So it's really a different concept from Kurzweil, but they do sort of sound alike a bit in the way they talk.
