random nighttime ramblings

The pain med insomnia really must stop...

Book scanning is progressing rather slowly. I have modified my chair height, and we will see if that changes anything tomorrow. I hope so--a large shipment of books is due to arrive in the morning (um, in a few hours).

Some progress was made on Hebrew today. I think that more would be made if I slept for about 24 hours. Hmm... I have not figured Sulfasalazine euphoria into my insomnia dilemma. I am up to 1500 mg, and tomorrow I go to 2,000. Life could get very interesting. At least Inca doesn't mind my back pain.

Someday I will write something profound in this journal again. For now, I am fighting the urge to eat. 3:00 A.M. snacks really are not necessary. Sleep is.

I hate being awake that late AND hungry. I feel like I'm going to wake up at least 5 lbs heavier if I eat, but then I have a hard time falling asleep if my stomach is tearing at me. I usually compromise by having a glass of milk and half of a cheese or peanut butter sandwich if I'm REALLY hungry. If you're able to fight the urge to eat, good for you! I'm not always so strong.

fighting the 3:00 A.M. hungries
I sometimes will eat protein if I absolutely must have food. I'm getting into the habit of making chicken strips to have on hand in the fridge for "muhcy times" since I can't eat things like cheese sticks (cheese causes migraines). This is better, at least, than eating bad carbs, which is what I've always done in the past. Lately I've been trying a new thing. I read somewhere that sometimes the body interprets thirst as hunger; so I've been trying to drink water at some of those odd hunger times. We'll see how all this does for combatting the Prednisone hungries. I'm still not off bad carbs completely; but my goal is to get to a controllable ratio by the time class starts in the fall. I don't really want to give up my morning muffins; but I don't think I should have to if I am limiting my carb intake during the rest of the day.

Are you fluent with Hebrew? I’m impressed. But then again, I’m impressed with anyone who is bilingual or better. I struggle enough with English as it is. LOL.

Re: Impressed
I can read and understand a fair amount of French and Spanish, though I am brushing up on it. I am doing Hebrew as part of my seminary studies and am becoming fairly good at it. I'm about to complete the equivalent of my first year of study, which has been compacted into a 16-week summer course. I hope to go on and do a second year at some point and would love to do something with teaching accessible biblical language courses at some poing. If you're interested in how this has gone in terms of accessibility, go to my front page and from there go to memorable entries/Hebrew. I've filed everything where I've attempted to document the process. I got very bogged down linguistically during the past few weeks, and the challenges have all been the same old, same old things; so there's not much new stuff to document. I'm actually getting very tired between the studying and all my extra stuff on top of it. It's definitely time for a little breather.
