About those muffins...

If you like poppy seed muffins, you may want to read this Snopes.com article. Apparently, poppy seeds can produce positive results on drug testing for opiates for up to 48 hours. Must remember to eat my poppy seed muffins on weekends...

If it is true I should start investing in them and buying them in stock!
I don't know - I bet if you ate them all the time, like daily or whatever, but just every now and then ... probably not. I love the Mythbusters and they did this but again it was just that once it wasn't like they had one every day for a week and then took the test

I remember there was a reality show contestant here in Australia (Big Brother, I think) who got caught out by just this very problem. He'd eaten poppyseed bread rather than muffins, but it came out with the same positive result for opiates. From memory, he was a brickie, so they were able to verify that he'd been at work bricklaying and definitely not high the previous few days. Not everyone would be that lucky.

poppy seeds
My husband actually failed a drug test to get onto a coal mine site because of poppy seeds. We had been eating pretzles with poppy seeds on them the night before. They redid the test and it was okay, but he was warned not to eat them before coming onto a mine site in future.
