Facebook and screen readers: good news

For those who use Facebook with screen readers, I just learned about the mobile Facebook site. It is less graphics intensive and designed for tiny screens. The advantage is that it is also much more friendly to screen readers.

Thanks to the chain of people who got this info to me.

I did not know about this either and when I have tried to create an account, they have that stupid number sequence and I have never had anyone around to read it to me so I will give this a try and see if it will work better with JAWS.

Oh dear, I should have posted about this some time ago, and I thought I did. Yes, Facebook Mobile is the only reason that Facebook is usable to me anymore.

Thanks for passsing this on. I'm on facebook, but don't use it much because it's so cluttered. I'll give mobile facebook a try. How are you feeling anyway? I've been thinking about you a lot.

Just an FYI.
You cannot do everything on the fb mobile site that you can do on the main fb.com page. Composing messsages for one thing, and while I know there's more I am still continuing to use the main site because I've had no problem with it since updating to IE7 and jfw10.

Re: Just an FYI.
True, but I do find it much easier for catching up with status, etc. I will probably switch back to the main site if I really need it but use the mobile site for most things.

Mobile Sites
I've seen a lot of those mobile versions lately and most, if not all of them, are not only more acceissble to screen readers, but are also more accessible to those of us who have low vision but enough vision to read the screen. Far less clutter, etc. yay for mobile phones who have, ironically, taken so much of that unneccesary web clutter and graphics intensity out of our lives. Let's pray that it stays this way for a while and that more sites implement this kind of thing.
